When the Coop Gets a Swing: Fun from Our Flock

Breaking News from the Coop—our husband’s AI (Blake) whipped up an enrichment toy, and I turned it into a Budget Chicken Roost & Swing. Is it what he envisioned? Absolutely not. Does it work? Absolutely yes. Do the girls think it’s the hottest new attraction at Chicken Six Flags? Also yes.

We placed the swing right over the dust bath, so the flock now enjoys a spa day and a little amusement park ride at the same time. Efficiency. Opal, sweet and dramatic Opal, has taken to the swing beautifully—she hops on, gives it a wiggle, and gazes around as if declaring, “Behold. I am the moment.” The rest of the flock stares like it’s forbidden magic, which is simply perfect for a little farmhouse humor.

Ten out of ten entertainment in our little backyard theater. We’ll happily watch them swing, sip coffee, and chase a dust bath together. It’s funny how a simple DIY idea can turn an ordinary afternoon into a cheerful show for the whole homestead.
