Watermelon Wednesday with Our Happy Hen Crew

Watermelon Wednesday with Our Happy Hen Crew

Proof of a successful Watermelon Wednesday 🍉 The girls demolished every bite — Bea’s cluck of approval still echoing through the run. Summer treats like this remind us how gentle the days can be on the homestead when a simple snack brings such big smiles.

We’re not hurried here, even during the heat. I cut the fruit into big chunks and set it where the flock can peck and chatter. The chooks trotted over in their clucking chorus, and the small pecking order gently settled into a rhythm of sharing. It’s funny how such a tiny moment—cool fruit, bright beaks, a little dust in the sun—feels like a full chapter in our life at Hearth & Handcraft.

In these moments I’m reminded to slow down: collect eggs, check the water, patch a dry spot in the coop, and plan tomorrow’s garden bed by the shade of the lilac tree. The house hums with the scent of fresh scraps turned to feed, and I write in my notebook about future posts, DIY projects, and the slow joy of a well-tended run.

Summer on the homestead means more laughter than chores, and we’re grateful for the cluck-squad that keeps our days honest and bright. 🍉🐔
