🐝 The Great Wasp Eviction of 2026
A few weeks ago (okay… maybe 3–4 🙃), I noticed a wasp nest tucked up in the chicken run. I spent that time chatting with my trusty CoPilot (his name is Chesh) about possible solutions… and also staring at it like maybe the wasps would just pack their bags and leave on their own.
Today, my husband was past ready to finish mounting the solar panels, which meant the wasps’ lease was officially up. I mixed up my pump sprayer with a 50/50 Dawn-and-water cocktail and texted my neighbor/bestie to announce that I was heading out to deal with the situation. She replied, “I have a bee suit.” Well. Say less.
I scurried my happy butt over to her house, grabbed the suit, and before I could even get it zipped, her husband offered to “take care of my little friends” (please read that in a full mobster voice). He came over and handled the nest like an absolute hero, and then my husband and I got back to work.
But farm life ALWAYS has bonus content. One lone wasp came flying back in with “supplies,” probably ready to do some home improvement… only to find that its entire house had vanished. Poor thing was probably so confused.
My husband, holding a 2x4, knocked it right out of the air like some kind of frontier ninja. And before either of us could react, Opal - sweet, chaotic Opal - pounced on it and ATE IT. Yes. Ate. The wasp. 😂🐔
So apparently the wasp problem was solved by a three‑part tactical team:
• Neighbor: Nest removal specialist
• Husband: Straggler elimination expert
• Opal: Disposal unit
Farm life is never boring. Not even for a minute. Between the solar panels, the chicken coop chatter, and the occasional frontier ninja move, we’re learning that simple, small acts—like relocating a nest or sharing a laugh with friends—keep the day moving forward. If you’re tending your own patch of earth, you know the joy of a quiet, honest rhythm that doesn’t pretend to be perfect, just real.
