The Case of the Tiny Beige Egg Continues

The Case of the Tiny Beige Egg Continues

🕵️‍♀️🥚 THE DETECTIVE HAT IS BACK ON.

Today I’m sitting at the kitchen table with a mug of coffee and a notebook full of clues from the coop. We officially have a new contributor to the egg basket, and the little beige egg in the middle nesting box has everyone whispering about alibis and shifts. It sat there like it had absolutely nothing to explain, which only makes the mystery more deliciously slow in a house built on daily routines and small discoveries.

Mabel has already been positively identified as our green-egg girl, so this tan newcomer must belong to one of the others. The suspects list grows with each cluck and peep from the coop—Hazel, Opal, Winnie, Bea. I’m watching the layering of hay and the tiny dust clouds that rise when the nesting boxes are opened. The cameras will be searched tonight, and nest-box activity will be reviewed as we sip our sourdough bread and listen for the familiar shuffle of wings before sunrise.

Somewhere in that coop is a hen pretending she did not clock in for her first shift, and I can almost hear her calloused honesty in the way she pecks at the straw. The Case of the Tiny Beige Egg has officially begun, and I’m thankful for the small mysteries that remind us to slow down, notice, and jot down moments before they disappear into the morning light.
