From Nesting Box to Breakfast 🥚🧁
There’s something ridiculously special about making breakfast with eggs that came from your own little backyard flock. This morning, Mabel’s tiny green eggs officially made their kitchen debut in a batch of muffins, and I’m not going to lie, cracking them felt a little bittersweet. I waited so long for those first eggs, and now here I am actually cooking with them. 🥹
And because Mabel apparently likes to keep things interesting, one of her little eggs had TWO yolks tucked inside. A tiny double-yolker! 💛💛 I may have stood over the bowl admiring it and taking pictures for entirely too long.
I’m so thankful for this funny little chicken and the tiny gifts she’s started leaving for us. Watching these girls grow from two-day-old chicks into our little backyard flock has been one of the sweetest parts of this homestead life.
HOWEVER.
Miss Mabel, we do need to discuss the economics of this operation. 😂
The muffin recipe called for three normal-sized eggs. It took four of yours, including the one with the bonus yolk. So I’m going to need you to either: 1. Step up production. 2. Increase egg size. 3. Hold a staff meeting and inform Hazel, Bea, Opal, and Winnie that the nesting boxes are not merely decorative. Because one tiny green-egg-producing employee cannot be expected to support this household alone.
But today? She did. 💚
