Home Is Where the Chickens Are: A Heartfelt Weekend of Chicken Shenanigans and Reunion
Share
My birthday weekend at the lake was great… until my camera showed FIVE chickens in the coop last night instead of six.
And where was Opal?
Sitting in the run window like a tiny, feathered gargoyle who missed bedtime and didn’t know what to do next. I worried about her all night like the dramatic chicken mama I am.
Fast‑forward to today: I walk into the run and Opal SPRINTS to me, clucking nonstop like she’s filing a full report. I picked her up and she melted into my arms like, “Mom, it was DARK and SCARY and I MISSED YOU.”
A few tomatoes and some lettuce later, Hazel and Mabel were happy, Gerdi was chasing Hazel like a lunatic, and all was right in the world again.
Home is where the chickens are.
