Coop Cleaning Day: Fresh Bedding and Happy Chickens

Coop cleaning day means management has to come inspect the work, obviously. 😂🐔

Today’s reset was a little ritual we’ve fallen into: sift the coffee bedding to pull out any sleepy straw bits, lay down fresh hemp bedding, and refresh the nesting boxes with clean pads. We sprinkle in fresh nesting herbs to scent the air—and yes, we whisper a quick thank-you to compost and the garden for helping us keep things balanced. I scrub the roosting bars and window sills until they gleam, spray a gentle odor eliminator, and finish with a fine mist of Roost Refresh. The coop feels lighter, calmer, and ready for the next round of busy little cluckers.

As soon as I step back, the inspection committee marches in with their little “we’ll take it from here” energy. I pass, I think, though the pecking and scratching tell a different story—notes clearly being taken for future improvements. 🐓🌿🧹

Fresh bedding, fresh air, and a sense of order that makes chores feel almost meditative. Then comes the joy: seven minutes of lived-in charm, the hens dusting their feathers and checking every corner for treats. It’s simple work, but it feeds our home’s rhythm—a small, steady heartbeat in our country life.
